Jerry and Jim Malloy 1 Month, 4 Weeks ago Karma: 6
From ARM Member Thomas...GREAT STUFF! ~ Rick

Here is the Jim and Jerry's "Sweet 16" car. I remember it as being not black, cobalt blue, but is was bluish-black-deep purplish color, a good looking car, as was Pachello's 19 car; especially if Pachello's 19 car and Malloy's 16 car were running side-by-side.

The photo of which there are several floating around the Internet is copied from an old 1961 program, with the descips at the top and bottom edited in.

Behind the 16 car through the windows you see a bit of Fritz' 6 car.

There was another 16 car that Jerry Malloy had in the late 50's early 60's. It had flip-up body, and flip forward hood attached to a '32 Ford radiator shell, and under the bucket seat was 14"x14" 2" deep tank with a petcock at the side of the seat that was very shadily connected to the fuel line (I wonder what that was for, a fuel booster?) anyway Shorty Weitzel the 16 car while Jerry had it. Jerry sold the 16 car was sold to Jack Capps, Jack's number was 38D, sponsored by Lehrer's Flowers in Denver. The first night out in the 38 car, Jack timed in, and found himself in the "A" Dash, and then found himself on his top.

Jerry as a car builder, excellent.

Jim as a driver, excellent. Jim's progression at Indy was remarkable, I think had Jim not had that accident that resulted in his dying about a month later, Jim would have won the "500" at least once.

Anyone else remember Jim driving Tommy Barton's red #1 model A bodied modified? It was powered by flathead V-8. I think Jim's fastest qualifying lap in the #1 car was 13:51.

Hey, Thomas! Do you remember this great article? ~VB
"1958 Edsel Pacer #19 was raced at Colorado National Speedway in 1968. The car was well built and a strong runner, and caused quite a bit of controversy. The driver was Jim Malloy.
Thomas Ellis wrote in with the details - "

Yes I do.

I wish there would have been more people would have remembered Jim driving the Edsel at CNS. What a season that was, especially when Jim lapped the field twice in a regular Saturday night fifty lap main event.

What a piece of history that is.

The picture of Jim Malloy at edsel dot com, shows Allen Batt in 101, Jim in 19 behind Batt, to the left of Jim is Paul Garrison in 007, and riding the rim is Harry McCool in 18. The other car can't tell for sure.

During that time period the announcer called Paul Garrision the "Pajama's Kid" because Paul wore covers that were covered with STP logos.

When I first moved to Utah in the late 70's, Malloy chassis were very popular at paved 3/8-mile tracks in Salt Lake City, UT and Meridian (Boise) ID. I think Jerry Malloy was operating out of Salt Lake City back then, and later he moved his business / chassis-shop back over to the Denver, CO area. ~VB
Here are some Malloy Roadster links that I found. ~VB
I couldn't get the links to work; so, here is the long way to some really great photos of Malloy chassis. ~VB
Go to Google and type in Malloy Chassis

Click on the link titled:

This is the very last Malloy Roadster. It is the twin to the Malloy Roadster driven by Harold Evans of Colorado. Jerry Malloy had kept this chassis in ...

Now, Click on "Return to Driver Profiles"

Scroll down to Ken Hamilton and click on his name.

Here you will find photos with these captions:

Ken Hamilton also drove the Lasasco wedge."

The Lasasco wedge is a Malloy chassis. ~VB

And yes, Ken Hamilton is the father of Davey Hamilton: western-states super-modified driver and Indy 500 driver from Boise, Idaho. ~VB

WOW! You guys...GREAT STUFF!

I wrote a very comprehensive story on Jerry and his car building talents for the 'old' racing website here in Colorado before. One of these days I'll re-produce it for the new ARM. ~ Rick.
