youtube may still have a clip of Jim Malloy's crash at Indy that became a fatal as a result of. It starts with a still pic of Jim and the rolls the accident action.
Every time I see it, it seems as if it were yesterday.
Search for Jim Malloy.

I remember in the early sixties when Jim broke the track record at Lakeside in the thunderously powerful number 5 Jet-Coupe.
There had been an onging arguement about cracking the 12's. The record that stood at that time was 00:13.05 for six cylinder's, and 00:13.49 Don Wilson and 00:13.51 Jim Malloy for flathead V-8's.
So the Malloy brothers build this neat looking number 5 Jet-Coupe, ran it a couple of laps around Lakeside, then Jim opened it up, with a power burst down the front and back chutes and a power controlled rolling through the north and south turns, Jim turned a 00:12.92. I believe that was open competition after the regular season 1963.

Eventually Sam Sauer would break into the 11's, and Rick Carelli would crack the 10's.
