arm_terrynish_10_nov_2004_1.jpgTerry Nish (Salt Lake City, UT) is now 70 years young and still very active in automobile racing. I’ll get to that a little later in this article. But for now, here’s how I came to know Terry.

family2.jpg Back in the late 1960’s, Terry and his nemesis, Joel “Snoopy” Terry, towed their wickedly-quick wingless sprint cars the 500 miles over to Cheyenne’s Intermountain Speedway. They diced it up with Wyoming’s and Colorado’s best open-wheel drivers during the end-of-season open completion races. And after the nights of racing were over, Terry always hung around with his crew to visit with us local fans.

frankensein.jpg Terry’s impressive sprint car history that includes racing down-under in Australia and his famous “Frankenstein ” sprint car.

Terry doesn’t campaign sprint cars any more. But, he still loves them. I still run into him once or twice a year in the pits at Rocky Mountain Raceways just west of Salt Lake City, UT. Terry stays very close to the pit area of Utah sprint car builder and ace-driver, Jimmy Wysong. You can’t miss Terry; he is always wearing shorts and a white Nish Motorsports tee-shirt.

So, what is Terry up to right now? Recently, he won induction into the Utah Sports Hall of Fame . Congratulations, Terry!

And over the past few years, Terry and his sons have been chasing the Sommers Brothers record set in 1965 at the Bonneville Salt Flats (UT). The Nishs are more determined than ever to eclipse 425 MPH in their 2300-horsepower single-engine two-wheel drive streamliner.
