Picture 6 of 22 from Album RALPHIE THE RACER LIGUORI
USAC Hoosier 100 in 1970 when Ralph passed AJ Foyt on the 3rd turn of the 99th lap for 2nd place. When Ralph came into the pits u could see the thread on the rear tires. Ralph was one of the drivers that still had an Offy engine some of the big names had the more powerful Ford Coyote engines like Al Unser and AJ Foyt. Two Indy winners, Johnny Rutherford and Bobby Unser were to slow to make the field. The DID NOT QUALIFY list of names had many great drivers and could have fielded a fabulous race. The Hoosier Hundred was the 2nd highest purse behind the Indy 500, Ralph earned over $9,000 which in those days was huge.
