Happy Birthday
Chevrolet
I remember when my dad bought...
1950 Chevrolet 2-door Fleetline, it had fast back look.
1955 Chevrolet Nomad Station Wagon, a real beauty of a car.
I bought a 1977 Chevrolet Impala 4-door, it was a good family car.

When I was born in 1964, I came home from St Joes in a powder blue 1936 Master sedan. My Grandpa worked for Craig Chevrolet and then for Jerry Roth Chevrolet. Yeah its cool to work for Purifoy Chevrolet during the 100th year celebration.
We took delevery of a 100th annaversary Corvette this week, WOW its over the top!

I was only 15-years old when my dad went with me to use my own money to purchase a bone stock, two-tone, sky-blue & white, 1955 Chevy Belair sedan with a factory V-8 power-pack 265 CID engine, and a 'slip-n-slide' power glide tranny. Total cost: $150.00.
By the time I had my driver's license at age 16, I'd rebuilt the 265, installed a 4-speed tranny, and completely re-shoed it all the way around with a set of used chrome reverse rims and some soft-rubber Plains A-to-Z recap tires. Total cost: ~$750.00.
It was purely 'maintenance' thereafter for blown: clutches, rear-ends, drive-shafts, and an occasional tranny rebuilt. Total cost: I don't have any idea other than it kept me broke all of the time.
Those were the days! ~VB

The only chevvy I have ever owned was a new '57 chevvy. I had just returned from the Panama Canal Zone (US Air Force) with a handsome amount of re-up money (at that time) and bought it right off the floor. I've had a couple of new cars and a few used cars since then, but that '57 chevvy was my all time favorite.

Always loved Chevys....my first was a '67 Chevy Malibu, 4-Door 283. In fact, I wrote a song about it ("4 Door 283") that appeared on the Damn Shambles first album back in '95. It soon got to where it needed something major every two weeks and I had to get something dependable. I had no place to store it, so a friend of mine let me keep it behind his shop on West Colfax, where later a homeless lady broke into it and was living in it for awhile. I guess Chevrolet makes a good shelter as well!
I now drive a Chevy GEO Metro which I've had for 15 years! People used to laugh at my lil' 3 banger, but I got the last laugh. Even with the high gas prices I can fill the tank for around $25 and go for two weeks. What's it costing you???.....I keep up the regular maintenance on it and hope to keep it another 15 years. The "other" car is a Chevy Cavalier.
I wish Dad still had that '57. Wish Mom didn't sell her '63 Corvair.
Happy Birthday Chevy! I loved your '59's!

In 1972 at age 12, I bought my first Chevy, a 39 2 door sedan. It still is setting in my back yard under a tarp, awaiting restoration, also still have the first Chevy truck I bought in 79, a 64 that I built into a 4x4 in 83 with original 64 running gear, my truck has over 760,000 miles on it, although not driven much anymore.

Like this topic a lot. Some interesting rides out there. I'm going for the oldest here, my first car was a 1932 Chevy five window coupe. Bought it with my paper route savings for a whopping $25 when I was a Junior in High School. First thing I did was to screw it up so it wouldn't run. After H.S. when I had a better job, first car that I had that ran was a decent '51 Chevy four door fastback. Didn't like that many doors, but looked OK with lowering blocks and sounded good with a split manifold and glass packs. The Chevy in my life that I liked best was a '64 Chevelle SS that my wife and I bought when first married. White with black buckets, 4 speed and power pack 283. That's the one I wish I still had.

I'm glad so many of you replyed to this post. Now I know what Bruce has in his back yard!
In the fall of 1975 Chris and I were both living in South West Denver and went shopping for wedding rings. I still have no idea how we ended up in Fort Collins, where we purchased them. On our way home Chris drove to George Irvin Chevrolet on South Colorado Blvd. to look at a 1967 Camaro he had spotted. He bought the car and drove her home. She was our daily driver for years. Some of you may have seen our little yellow car with black stripes in the pits at the Reunion this year. Right now she is tucked away for the winter in our back yard with a battery tender and all covered up.

My first new car was a 1971 Vega that I bought from Chuck Ruwart Chevrolet over on south Colorado Blvd. back in November of 1970. Depite all the bad raps about the Vega, I loved the car. I got one of first set of mags wheels in town for it from Kenz and Leslie. Later on I had Mike Young pinstripe it.
The first Chevy I fell in love with was a 1956 Bel Air convertible that was on the showroom floor at the dealership where my mom was buying a secondhand '53 Chevy 2 door post. That was in the spring of '56. This was in Chicago at Yarnall Chevrolet.
