Although not a huge road course fan, I realize there were many beautiful cars, and truly great drivers from that form of racing. Here is a neat color shot from Riverside Raceway, in southern CA, 1960 the amazing Carroll Shelby in a Maserati "Birdcage". Shelby was a road racing champion before he got into car building.

Wow, talk about two of the greatest race drivers of all time, A.J Foyt in the #83, and Parnelli Jones #98, each in a Lola T-70, in the LA Times Grand Prix, Riverside, CA 1966. In this one photo these two drivers account for: 1 victory in the 24 hours of Le Mans, and The 12 hours of Sebring. 5 Indy 500 wins, 3 USAC National Sprint car titles, 5 USAC National Championships, 1 LA Times Grand Prix, 1 Daytona 500, (about 17 NASCAR race wins between the 2 drivers), hundreds of Midget, Sprint Car, Champ car, stock car, and sports car races, dirt ovals, paved ovals, and road courses, plus Foyt actually drag raced in Texas before he went oval track racing!

The list goes on: 24 Hours of Daytona win and the 1970 Trans Am Championship. Oh, I almost forgot Parnelli's wins at Baja with Bill Stroppe. They are amazing guys.
