From the Archie Johnston collection, here is a shot of Darrell Stingeries Mustang late model or super stock (they were referred to super stock in E-Woods program at this time frame) sitting idle in the pits at Colorados Englewood Speedway. This was one of my favorite cars when I would attend races at E-Woods great 3/8th's mile paved oval. Archie did the lettering and Darrell, who did body and paint work most of his life, did those honors on this gorgeous car. Darrell left us a few years ago, but for those of you who did not know him, you missed out meeting a quality human being. He would go out of his way to help out. Bruce Rhoades (our own Rapid30) as a young boy, remembers going into the pits after the races and Darrell would always tell him "Theres a pop in that cooler over there with your name on it".

Darrell also drove some mini-stockers during his career and did very well in that class. He and Larry DeChant, in the eighties, teamed with AAA Wholesale Co., and built two Chrysler product cars (referred to as late models now) that featured the #78 and #178. They proved to be a capable team as well.

Take a look in the backgroud of this shot, and you will see a bunch of the Figure 8er's that we all enjoyed during this era.

How fitting it is that Archie lettered this car as Arch is a died in the wool FORD guy.
