This Ford late model was driven by Rex Turner, and legendary midget driver Ed Jackson was the owner. According to Archie Johnston, who lettered this car, Rex won a lot of races during a particular year in the 60's. You see, the hood on this car was padlocked, and for good reason. Big blocks were illegal at the time, but Rex and his crew kept their secret very well. On the front of the hood, you can see some lettering, that is tough to make out. Archie hand painted "Do not open till Christmas" as a teaser for the competition.
One of the cars sponsors was MA Motors. The "M" stood for Marvin Snider and the "A" for the "Stroker" himself, Archie Johnston. This photo was shot at Colorado National Speedway and comes from the Archie Johnston collection. Again, I apoligize for the poor picture quality. Many of Archies photos cannot be removed from their frames because they are stuck to the glass.
