“Here’s a cool 1961 Englewood Speedway program cover featuring Dick Bayles (top)and Arnie Kautz (bottom). Arnie went on to win the 1965 Figure 8 championship, but unfortunately died in a tragic plane accident in Feb. 1966.” --Jerry Lee

Hey Jerry & Olen! Those old programs from the local tracks are always a real treat to read! ~VB

Here's a tip to make that smaller text in these programs more readable for those of us with older eye-balls:
While holding down the Ctrl key on your keyboard, spin the mouse scroll-wheel forward to enlarge the display image, or spin the mouse scroll-wheel backwards to re-size display image back to normal size. The mouse scroll-wheel is on newer mice (mouses) and is located between the right & left mouse buttons. ~VB

Thanks for the tip Buzz! That worked pretty well on this end, you can really read the names and times.
For those who may not be able to make that feature work, here is your trophy dash for that night in 1961:
17:79 - Joe Lehman #6
17:90 - Bob Neely #46
18:01 - Bill Nicholson #74
18:11 - Rodger Webb #50
18:12 - Wayne Stallsworth #52
18:48 - Jack Duckworth #89
18:58 - Larry Dechant #100 (In a car featured on the ARM just today!)
18:63 - Gary Wayne #55
note: Vern Waymire #26 was probably in this trophy dash, as the person who wrote the times out has him down as a questionable 18:?1.
Fun stuff!

Hey Buzz, this is a good place to show that tip for us with ageing eyes.I might add for the one's that have the old mouse(no scroll wheel) you can Hold the Ctrl key down while pressing the plus (+) or minus (-) down to change page size.Or use the percentage sign in the bottom right of page (Internet Explorer).

That's fantastic, I love seeing the notes taken on old programs. Did you notice #62, Dave Strickland Sr.! he ran stock cars for 3 years then moved to Northern Ca. in 1962. After winning many Bay Cities Racing Assoc.(BCRA) main events, he went on the United States Auto Club, national midget tour. By 1971 he came within 12 points of winning the USAC National Midget title, has 38 RMMRA main events, 25 USAC main events, 3 RMMRA championships, passed his rookie test for the Indianapolis 500 in 1969, but failed to qualify for the 500 in 69 and again in 71. Is the Micheal Smaldone listed, from the Smaldone family out of North Denver? (or is it even Smaldone?, kind of hard to read)

Uh... how would you like to be the poor unlucky guy who accidentally spins out Michael Smaldone? There would be some "family" waiting for you in your pit. stall. :)
