According to Archie Johnston, this picture was shot as Joe Leonard was being introduced to the crowd at Colorados Englewood Speedway. Pete Stringers #20 Late Model can be seen behind the AMX. Archie thinks that this took place before the feature race during a special invitational called the Columbine Series??? I am not sure. I do remember some invitational races at Englewood that were frequented by Hershel McGriff and his Olympia Beer #5 car. I remember Wayne Stallswoth beat him out at one of these races, which was an upset.
The car is not an AMX, it is a Hornet. The AMX's had a wheelbase of 96" and wouldn't have been legal at any racetrack in Colorado. After production of the two seat AMX ended, the AMX became the high end model of Javelin. I think John Balzano had a red Javelin AMX sometime later.

Is that Lynn Hunter? If it is, give me a shout Lynn. 303-450-6774
No, I'm not Lynn Hunter. My last name is Wilson. I was part owner of cars that raced at Beacon Hill, Pikes Peak Speedway, CSIS and Raceway Park at various times in the 70's.
Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures. I lost the only picture I had of any of our cars.
I forgot to mention in the last post that the Hornet was driven by Tommy Leonard. The engines were built by H. L. Shahan. I beleive the car was owned by Racing Assciates.
