Wondering if you all could help me gather a list of all past CARC Modified champions and rookies of the year to post on the new CARC website. Any and all would be great just throw out a name and year.
Thanks -Frank Denning

Lakeside Speedway Season Track Champion
Pete Ducker
1952
This is what I remember of what Arthur Ducker, Pete's dad, explained about his son's death.
Pete (Ducker) died November 14, 1953 in Phoenix, Arizona at the Arizona State Fairgrounds. It was at a AAA Midget Championship Race, during which the steering apparatus on Pete’s midget race car collapsed, causing it to catapult into the infield and roll several times. Ducker was killed instantly. Arthur was not told at what point (lap) during the race that Pete’s crash occurred. Pete Ducker was also a member of the RMMRA.
This was told to me a couple of years later after my mom and I moved to an apartment (after dad died) that was owned by Arthur Ducker in Denver, Colorado, one block from the Denver/Englewood city line.

Thank you all for your time. That is a huge help. All I am missing is 1946, 1947, 1978, and 1984 thru 2003. And I still need all the rookies. Its funny how everyone remembers a champion!:D

Frank, information from 1946-7 is pretty scetchy. Dick Issacs was president, and the club raced at several tracks. They raced at the rodeo grounds on Table Mountain, then the Adams County fairgrounds at Brighton, and at the Arapahoe County fairgrounds in Littleton. If I had to make an educated guess I would say Keith Andrews was the 1946 Champion. He raced amoung others, a car owned by the Syer brothers with a Studebaker engine that was supposed have been in an Indy car. Pappy Hendricks also drove that car. Keith also raced in the CarraPanamerica Mexican road race with Blu Plemons as co-driver. That ws in 1954. They finished 3rd in their class. This was in a borowed car and a shoestring budget. Sadly Keith was killed while practicing for the Indy 500.
Dick Issacs was killed while driving Bob "Connie" Conrad's model A roadster. Conrad's car was powered by reverse cam Crager overhead converted Ford 4 cylinder.
In 1947 Lafe Ellsworth was president. Lafe was the consumate promoter. In addition to racing at Englewood speedway, under Lafe the CARC promoted races in Kansas, Nebraska, and South Dakota. Again information is very scetchy. You might want to contact Blu Plemons, Charlie Mullenhour, or Don Clark. They might be able to help fill the gaps.
Futher Champions:
Rick Carelli: 1978, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988
In 1993 the club reactivated and ran a couple of shows in Cheyenne but I don't think they declared a champion.
At Second Creek
Champion:
Troy Ross: 1994
Rookie of the year: none
Bob Land: 1995, 1997, 1998
Todd Ediger: 1996
Rookie of the year:
Todd Ediger: 1995
Greg McLaughlin: 1996
These are about all the blanks that I can fill in. I would think you could get a hold of Bruce Rhoades who most likely could fill you in on the 2000's.
If you don't know how to get ahold of the old guys, PM me. I don't want to put their #'s on here.

According to Bill Hill's book "Decades of Daring Midget racing in the Rocky Mountains" Keith Andrews was indeed CARC champ in 1946 driving for Harry and George Syer. Andrews loved the roadsters and continued on in them part time while concentrating on the midgets, through 1949. I have 3 1948 CARC programs, and 1 1949 CARC program, but they don't give point standings or mention past champions, I'll post some scans of those programs soon.

Most of my information comes from past conversations wth old timers. They were a wealth of information. Some came by way of "Roaring Roadsters #2" by Don Radbruch. And a lot comes from my collection of CARC memorabilia. I was club historian at one time.

Frank, just one adjustment to the list of past Lakeside Speedway track champs; One of the later Lakeside Speedway programs did a CARC history piece that had Bill Starks as champ in 1955 and 1956, while Fritz Wilson was champ in 1957 and 1958. I have a '56 program that shows the point standings as of the Mid Season Championship race and Starks, in first place, had a 93 point lead over Fritz who was in 4th place. That's a lot to catch up, so pretty sure that old program listing is accurate. Interesting to note that for 1955 through 1957, a '32 Ford 3 window coupe was champ car for three years in a row!
