I did not remember Danny Schleer ever driving a stock car, but from the Archie Johnston collection, here is a shot proving that he did. This photo was taken at Colorado Nat'l Speedway, probably in the late 60's. At the time, Danny was driving a tow truck for Gene Carelli. On the deck lid in the second photo, the name Mike Wood appears. Mike and Gene Carelli, both had tow trucks that were leased to Elmer Sauers towing company, Metro Towing. Mike Woods also owned Columbine Carpeting. Dan Schleer could build some very clean stock cars. I got to letter a Englewood modified that Sam Sauer was to drive for Dan. I never got a picture of that car, but it was black and had silver leaf lettering. Chris Ertler remembered seeing it in my garage and commented on how beautiful a car it was. I do not know if it ever hit the track, or where it went.
I do not remember Dans Fathers name, but he was a flagman at Century 21 Speedway and was killed in a freak accident while performing his flagman duties.
In the background of this photo, the #72 Wayne Stallsworth driven Monte Carlo sits idle. I lettered that car, but cannot remember the owners name. He owned a drywall outfit and dumped some serious cash into the Chevrolet. I believe it was sold to Marv Roberts and was repainted black. It sported the number 22.
