Here is a pic approx 1977 or 78, Don Carelli #6, Rick Carelli #7, and Pat Petrie in the fence. I was standing right there when pat hit the fence. Boy did he hit it hard. Pat was a big dude but[ he was a little groggy after this hit .

Tim, you're right, pretty sure that is from 1977. Nice action shot! Could be sub titled "Gentle giant meets the Carellis". I was a fan af all those guys, especially Don Carelli who I watched begin his Lakeside career in 1964. He began slow, but grew into a really good racer pretty quick. Here's a photo of that first car, a gold '32 coupe with just a temporary number, he and his brother Gene put on the track that year. The interesting thing about this photo is Don studying the numbering on Pachello's #19.

This isn't a great photo, just another of those I took at the track entrance with a lowly 110 camera, but shows the Carelli car now with a pretty well executed blue and red #29 on the side of that gold coupe, an attractive color combination. Don grew into racing quickly and I knew he had arrived when he outdueled the great Sam Sauer one night, countering every move that Sam made with a move of his own to win the race. It was fun to watch.
