Here is photo of "Moby Dick" owned by Bob Couch, and Jim Binkley had a percentage of #17 too.

It was 1954 Buick Special 2-door hardtop. The year was 1966. I believe the year before 1965, a short beginning season for CNS, Bob had been running a 1955-56 Mercury 2-door sedan.

Then in 1966 by the urging of a mutual friend that Bob and I had, I went joined Bob Couch and Jim Binkley to help with running of #17 "Moby Dick"

Bob was sharp and read between the rules and made #17 a real good dirt working car. Some of the members at CNS were suspicious of the suspension of #17, they'd ask if that was stock, I'd say better ask Bob or Jim about that.

Toward the end of the '66 somebody finally figured out that a 1954-56 Buick did not have leaf springs with an open drive line. And yet they didn't notice the adaptor bell housing that coupled a 322 Buick nailhead to a Ford transmission. Even though it was discovered that the changes were not stock, it was not noticed that the third member and axel housing were Ford products as well.

All the mods that Bob had made were not allowed the next year, so the #17 was parked; Bob went to build some fine running Pontiacs to run at CNS, and maybe at Englewood too. Jim stayed with Bob, and I took to running my own cars. Bob and Jim were close enough friends that they helped me get my start, Bob gave me his old #17 '57 Ford hardtop to run - No not the #121 car pictured elswhere here in ARM.

Sadly Bob Couch died in the mid 70's. Jim Binkley is still around somewhere, I think.
