Sept. 13, 1959, Williams Grove Speedway, PA. Johnny Thomson was one of the best all around racers in the 1950's, he ran well at the Indy 500, he won sprint car races, champ car races, midget races and stock cars. He won on dirt and pavement in every division he ran. Here was one of Johnny's low lites, here he dumps Sam Traylor's sprint car, and gets pitched out, seems the lap belts gave up pretty easy in those days. Thomson suffers a broken ankle and leg, but no life threatening injuries. No wonder Traylor retired to Florida, between Thomson and Musselman, he must suffered severe stress syndrome. I'll bet he insisted on shoulder harnesses for his drivers after this.
