Hello everyone, the time has come for me to share years of racing memorabilia with you.
My very close relative is now 87 and has given me box's full of pictures, programs, racing news articles, etc., from his many years of racing around America, 1938-1971.
He was an original open wheel outlaw driver. Running USAC, IMCA and unsanctioned events as well.
Over 200 wins in midgets and sprints. Most came in the early years of no roll bars and seat belts.
Ironically, his days of a driver ended crashing in a USAC sprint with all the modern safety equipment available.
Many times in those early days he was thrown clear of the car while rolling, only to come back and race the next night.
Due to showing respect, I must honor his wish's by not using his name.
I will however share 1,000's of stories and pictures (with other drivers names included)
This gentlemans wife never threw anything away, so I have tons of old race programs with complete results from tracks all over the country.

If anyone knows what my user name means, you will be showing your age.
Hint, it is race related.

Thanks for the warm welcome.
I have some questions to help me understand what everyone is interested in.
Seems photos are number one.
Is anyone interested in old race results and stories?
What part of the country is more popular with everyone?
How about rating the divisions in order.
Stocks
Sprints
Midgets
What years do you all wish to hear more about?

My estimate to this old racing collection would be around 10,000 photos, so if I were to just start posting them I might be waisting time with stuff nobody is really wants to see or read about.

Many photos are of tragic life ending accidents.
Do you feel this would be in bad taste to post them.
Some are with the driver by the car, while others are of just the car after the driver had been removed.

I need some guidlines please.

Thank you,
gilhooley

gilhooleyI am a open wheel guy myself but the folks on ARM enjoy a wide variety of forms of vintage racing.

Maybe start a post or two of the things that interest you the most.

Life ending accidents are an interesting topic and as long as everything we post is in good taste. Those types of topics are certainly not forbidden.
