In his #18 Phillips 66 Flight Fuel Ford coupe with wife Pooch and son Skipper cheering him on from the grandstands, Mutt Evans dogged his competition at Intermountain Speedway in Cheyenne, WY from 1956 through 1961 by winning the B-Class Track Championship every year except 1958 (3rd) and 1961 (6th). And in 1961, Mutt timed-in fast enough on a few nights to run with the bigger-dog A-Class cars and collect 40-points against them, which most likely cost him valuable points over in his B-Class. In 1961, the bigger-dog A-Class Track Championship went to #19D Don Wilson, followed by #87D Billy Vaughn (2nd) and #55D Dick Piscitella (3rd). It was low-budget race car owners, builders, and drivers like Mutt Evans that encouraged the common-person to compete honorably in our sport back in the '50s & '60s. Way to go, Mutt! ~VB

Hi Buzz, What a cool photo. Guys like this were the backbone of racing for years. You gotta love '34 Fords, at least I do and I'm a Chevy guy. I never got up to Cheyenne in those days, of course being just 13 presented a little problem. BCS is a neat place I've had my cars on it for vintage events.
Do you have any photos of our mutual friend Clarence Krieger? I'd really like to see them if you could post a couple.

Hey, Chris! That's exactly why I wanted to post this article. You got it!
Speaking of Clarence Krieger, I was at BCS last night for their mid-season championships and WARC Night. And guess who I ran in to at BCS? You got it! Mr. 83G himself, Clarence Kreiger! I'm going to do a separate post on "Buzz's road trip to Cheyenne" right after I get a few hours of shut-eye...left for Cheyenne on Saturday AM and I just got back home in Utah about an hour ago on Sunday AM. My behind is dragging. ~VB

Hi buzz, I'll be looking forward to that feature. By the way how was the "Mayor of Garden City" doing? Clarence is one heck of a guy.
