This is a photo of Earl Kouba's #55 midget, Kurtis Kraft chassis #137. the shot was taken when it was first restored in 1995 with Ethel proudly sitting in the cockpit (at Cedar Lake Speedway). The second shot was taken in 2000 at Jackson Speedway.

Man... that's a beautiful midget. I love that you guys wear retro safety equipment, that makes it double-cool.

The only way to honor the truley great racers, Jackson, Lamanna, Hamelton ,Troxel, Manning, and of course the very best Eark Kouba is to wear his helments and goggles. Jimmy and I have done it for 14 years now. we are truley blessed to have these great old midgets

Joe, I've got my dad's old "Clymer crash helmet" that he wore from 1954 till 1959 he drove the 1959 RMMRA season at Englewood Speedway in Jack DeShon's Westerhouse built, Solar Copy, V8-60. Before that he drove coupes at Lakeside Speedway. But it's in rough shape, makes a great display item but I wouldn't wear it for fear of damaging it. Truly fantastic that you guys can wear those old items. Bill Hill's book show's Kenny Blanchard in DeShon's #51, for 1959, but John Guttormson(my dad) actually drove the #51 for the entire 59' season. I've got his goggles also, neat stuff, here's pop in Jack DeShon's car wearing said "safety equipment".
