Western States USAC Sprint Cars

25-July-2009: Twenty Western States USAC Sprint Cars took the main-event green flag last night on the 1/3-mile paved oval at Rocky Mountain Raceways in Salt Lake City, UT. The Swanson brothers from California dominated the night by finishing 1st and 2nd in qualifying and then in their main-event. Utah chassis-builder, Jimmy Wysong, turned wrenches on Kody Swanson's #75 sprint car so well that Kody set a new track record at 13.582...almost 3/10ths faster than his previous track record set back in early June-2009. Tanner Swanson #17 was second quickest with a 13.716; followed by Audra Sasselli #77 @ 13.766, Mike Murgoitio #80 @ 13.870, & Jimmy Waters #24 @ 13.989. Mike Murgoitio #80 from Idaho had the fastest lap in the main-event: Lap 17, 13.917, 97.004 MPH. ~VB

Thanks for that report Buzz, I really enjoy the sprint cars on pavement. And don't they look good without wings! 13.582 for the third mile is moving. That must have been fun to watch.
