Here's an entire program from 1949, one my dad saved as he really liked the Hot Rods (roadsters). No notes, or times in this one, but check it out, it's over 20 pages!! You got your money's worth in those days. Note the future racing champions on the #50 pit crew, Jimmy LaManna midget champ, and Sam Gallo modified champ. Hey coupe guys, it's the CARC your club!

My dad really loved the midgets most, but he thought the roadsters were more affordable, and he had a street rod, so he went to lots of roadster races. I believe he saw them race at Englewood, Brighton, and Arapahoe County Fairgrounds. He purchased a track roadster, without a engine, and then got drafted and went to Korea, instead of Englewood Speedway. When he got home his mom had moved into a different house and had sold the roadster! So he ended up racing coupes. When I spoke with him yesterday I told him I posted the program from 1949 (he was 19), he says "Is that the program with the poor artwork on the cover". We agreed the roadster drawing is not that great.

Great story Mitch, I wonder who won that prize from the program stub, and what the prize was. I take it that it wasn't your Dad that won it.~Olen

It's interesting that they sold both cigarettes and cigars at the concessions stand. And it's interesting that they seemed to be having a rainy season similar to what we are having this year.

Mitch, another great post. Those roadsters must have been something else to see. I've had the good fortune to talk to some the oldtimers who ran them. They all had the best stories.

Yes sir, this is the legacy of the CARC. Unfortuntely many of the young guys of today don't know the history. To be honest with you, when you talk to some of them they act bored to tears. I was club historian at one time and it bothers me to no end to think of this history being lost.

Thanks to men like you, maybe we all can save this history, I hope so. I expect to be upgraded shortly to better contribute.

Those old programs are great! Thanks Mitch for sharing one for a form of racing for which we don't see enough. Roadster racing (referred to "Hot Rod Racing" when I was still bicycle age) was my favorite type of racing for a long time, even after stock car racing became popular. Couldn't wait for the next Hot Rod Magazine to come out with coverage of roadster racing. Hocked my watch (to a buddy) for fifty cents to get in to the races once. It was a good watch my folks gave me for a present, so I had to get it back quickly using my paper route earnings. It was worth it, roadster racing on a half mile fairgrounds track in eastern Nebraska. Not the best looking cars, like those from Colorado or California, but to a kid discovering auto racing, they seemed pretty cool.

This is fantastic Mitch! Doing a lot of research over the years I always wished one of these old Roadster programs would surface somewhere. Very, very cool.:D

I love sng the old programs. Now I could use a little help from the family here at ARM. I am looking to present the Brighton Historical Society with some pictures and info concerning the old Brighton Speedway, which was the old Adams County Fairground, in Brighton on 4th Ave. I am looking for any pictures, old programs, advertisements in the local paper at that time, news paper stories, even old ticket stubs. Any sort of memorabilia that I can get copies of so I can put together a nice package that the historians can add to the archives. This will also be presented to the Adams County Museum. Niether group has any info on this little bit of history and I think it is something of value that needs to be made available to them. Those that have anything to add, will be credited of course and once I have a good bit of material, I will present it. Thanks in advance for any help I can get.... pdqzbra57@netzero.net is where I can be reached for any questions or material....Mike Bremkamp
