Thanks Jimmy for this great racing site. Another one to spend hours on,and especially if your a midget fan. Those Aussies have always had their share of racing greats. I particularly enjoyed the american input of the site.

Jimmy,
Wow, thanks for the great midget site.....The content will take hours to review, let alone really take it all in. You really offered us a wonderful link. Quality all the way.

Chuck has said it best! I've already started logging my hours. Only talked to one local driver who has "gone down under" to race his sprint car while the rest of us were shoveling snow off our driveways up here. He loved racing with the Aussies/Kewies...and his wife...she hated shoveling their driveway by herself. JimmyK, thanks for sharing with us! ~VB

Sorry I never got to Australia. I must confess that the midgets were my favorite show in the 15 years I spent at IRP. At .686-mile, some might say the track was too big for them, but I thought it was great. They had a lot more track to play with, and it was fearsomely fast.
I remember one night when a now very well known racer made his first start on that big oval in a USAC midget show. I had watched him since he was in TQs, and I happened to be in his pit when he came in from his first practice.
His comment after taking the helmet off?
"KEEERIST this place is fast!!!"

I should have added that this corresponded to my first visit to Daytona in the 60s, and the same warning should have been given to first-time drivers.
In a rookie meeting, Darel Dieringer told those on hand, "When you get up to speed, and head down into turn one, be very, very careful. You're gonna be going 20 or 30 miles an hour faster than you've ever gone in your life."
