In the first photo, probably shot in the late 50's-early 60's, Ody Fellows, driving the #66 modified, ends up looking at the pavement with a different perspective. In the second photo, never one to give up a challenge, it looks like a crash crew member is helping out by trying to reinstall Ody's hood so that Ody could continue the race. Or maybe they were getting ready to tow it back to the pits. Either way, a great combo of pics from Ody's collection. This action takes place at Colorados Englewood Speedway.

First photo not as clear, but the second photo . . .
It appears Ody's 66 is a '36 Ford 3-window, but upon closer examination I do not see a not a single shape rear window, but a stock size and shape split rear window. So that would indicate that Ody's 66 is a late '30 or early '40 Willys four springer coupe.
What do you all think.
Speaking of 66, do you remember Bill Streeter's 66 at Lakeside.

Think you're right Thomas, that's a late '30s Willys. ('37-42) Wonder why more of those weren't used. What do you suppose he used for an engine?

Good question . . . about the engine in Ody's 66 car.
Maybe 1948-51 Willys or the 1952-54 Willys Aero 6 cylinder; the 4 cylinder I do not think would have enough competitive power.
Well, that's my thought.
I also wonder if Ody shortened up the rear of the body by a few inches.

Yes, that would definitely be interesting since there were few are far between Willys stockers, I would like to know more about Ody's 66 car. I going to build a scale model of it from an AMT '40 Willys drag coupe. I remember Paul Garrison's '32 Willys at Lakeside.

There was one more of those late '30s/early '40s Willys stock cars that I remember. Saw one at Pueblo, early sixties, I believe it was from Colorado Springs. Memory a little fuzzy, but seems it was #555 ? (It was during a racers strike of the track, and all the visiting cars from Colo. Springs and Englewood parked across the street from the track in an empty lot in protest of something. Never did hear what the issue was. Think the races were cancelled that night.) Anyone remember that car?

Ody says the Willys (he is not sure of the year) was powered by a 6 cyl. Willys. It had a 3 speed trans and was chopped. The owner of the car was Harold Erickson. He hauled the car down from Washington state when they took up residency in Colorado. In the above pictures, Ody and another driver were swappin paint during this race. He says that the other driver finally got Ody sideways and Ody, retalliated by forcing the other car into the fence. At the same time, Odys car rolled over on its side.
Ody is turning 80 in January. He says he is feeling good and is working on a 3/4 midget from Missouri, swapping motors and such.
Thomas, if you want colors of the car and numbers, I will call Ody to verify.

Thanks superstroke . . . that's really appreciated, it would be a great help; one more question, was the six a flathead? Did you notice looking at the left side wheels they weren't old Ford 5-wides. So I got the old AMT '40 Willys kit out today and started the building process, #66 should be an easy build.
I think I'll finish some model race cars I have started, and get back into the "Table Top Racer" mode again with some new builds.
Thanks for the motor revving inspiration.

Here is pic of the kit, I'll use the body, frame, floor board, the rest will come from a parts box, and scratch built. I have a falthead six from a '41 Plymouth that should work, if not I'll scratch build that too. As you can see it's a drag racing version so there is a lot of stuff I will not be using from the kit.

Thomas, the car was painted by Ody. He says it was a mother of pearl white with blue numbers. I will call him and ask whether it was a flatie or not.

Here is the other photo I was looking for from the ARM images.
Ody's #66 Willys coupe in the pits at Englewood. At first glance it would pass for '36 Ford 3-window coupe. It's a better photo for building a sacle #66.
#66 and Ody Fellows . . . I was wondering about Ody's haircut, it does look a bit unusual.
