Sayre Speedway is a 1/4 mile semi-banked asphalt oval located near Sayre, Alabama. The track was built in 1960 by Robert Hogeland and was later bought by Troy Lee Watts in 1972. Troy then sold the track to B. J. Parker in 1974 and B. J. sold it to Tony Davis and Billy Crownover in 1976. In 1978 Billy Parker and Ed Young bought Billy Crownover's share.

A 1/4 mile paved figure 8 operated from 1980 to 1985, and reopened in 2001.The track has previously operated as Sayre's Dixie Speedway and Dixie Speedway. The name changed from Heart O' Dixie Speedway to Sayre Speedway between the 2004 and 2005 seasons.

The Alabama Gang was the nickname for a group of NASCAR drivers who set up shop and operated out of Hueytown, Alabama, near Birmingham, Alabama.
Bobby and Donnie Allison,Bob Harmon and Red Farmer set up shop in Hueytown, Alabama, and were dominant throughout the 1960s and early 1970s. In 1973, Jimmy Means joined the gang. Beginning in 1979, their sons and contemporaries began racing, and became known as members of the Alabama Gang themselves. Bobby's son Davey Allison, and fellow Hueytown residents Neil Bonnett, and David Bonnett. Hut Stricklin, who married Donnie's daughter, became the last member of the Alabama Gang.

Sayre Speedway is still doing good. Here's some real neat hot laps taken there about two years ago.
