From the Bruce Rhodes collection, here are two highlight photos from Speed Wheels racing magazine dated Friday August 11, 1967. The first photo shows Eddie Mailo"s #9 all crossed up in front of a hard charging Don Carelli in the #90d, Don Palmers #78 Hudson powered modified, and finally Jack Graham in the #7 modified. I always loved Don Palmers Hudson. It was sponsored by the Hollywood Venetian Blind Service. These were my favorite times at Lakeside.
The next photo is from the same Speed Wheels edition and shows the CARC Officials trying to undo or redo what they undid......Er Uh? Anyway, the CARC always ran an inverted start, that is, the slower cars started up front. On this night, they tried to invert the lineup so the fast cars would be in front, but they attempted to do this while the pack paraded toward the start/finish line. I remember this night and it certainly was a shot from the Keystone Cops movies.
