Forgive me for reusing the same birthday card Al, but this thread tells a little bit about one of the coolest guys I know!!! YOU!:first:

HAPPY 48th BIRTHDAY BIG AL DURAN I hope you have a GREAT day my friend!

What the above posts don't say about Big Al is that not only is he one heck of a Figure 8 driver, but he has one of the best Elvis voices around. Out of 3300 singers, BIG AL once came in 5th best at sounding just like The King!

You locals can hear Big Al sing AND help a little girl with cancer at a benefit on October 26 @ the union hall at 20th and Harlan in Edgewater. From what I understand, any kind of donation will get you in the door. Hopefully Big Al will give us more details on the benefit here, or he can be reached on Big West Racing.com as well.

Jerry

Got your E-Mail thanks for it. My youngest daughter(48) used to run her 69 camero at Orange County Dragstrip in Santa Ana Calif. Does my heart good to see gals that love cars and any kind of racing. She kept me awake many nights pushing to make it go faster. In 1978 she went 12.10 seconds 108 mph and drove it to school every day . All steel body 4.55 rear end 350 engine no bottle just fast.My e-mail is usaclarry@yahoo.com. Thanks again Larry Dunham

Happy birthday Big Al. Glad to see you on ARM. Do you have any good Benny "Skunkie" Garcia stories to share? He was a real favorite with the fans.
Have a great day.

thanks for all the birthday wishes i really appeciate all of them...thanks again!!....you know growing up and going to Englewood Speedway back in the day was something i'll never forget we lived on dartmouth & Dale ct i could here the roar of the motors still to this day...Bennie always had something going on at his shop on missiippii all the time we would ride our bikes over there to see what he was doing i remember one of his 54 fords that was two tone black & white painted diagonally with chrome wheels that was the best looking figure 8 car i ever saw, that nite he went out a broke the track record won the dash, semi, and main event---they wanted to tear him down and Bennie told them you aint touching my car,any way after a heated argument they let him have the win,him along with my uncle Eddie Garcia,Steve were all my heros i blame them for me catching this racing bugg i cant shake...god i love this stuff!!!
