OK, so this isn’t really an Auto Racing “Memory”, but I don’t know of a better bunch to share this with.
Just for fun, I thought some of you might get a kick out of seeing the little dirt oval track that we built in my friend’s backyard for our Mini-T radio control race cars.
Built in 2003, the track features 8 inch aluminum rails on the outside, 6 inch for the inside. For the 1/18 scale cars we run, we estimated the inside groove to be close to Lakeside’s 1/5 mile, and the outside similar to Englewood’s 3/8 mile track.
Originally a flat track, the racing surface has started to bank itself naturally over the years from continuous racing and rain water run-off.

(Photo by Sharon Poteet) Looks like a rainout has left the track pretty wet and muddy on
this day, but you can get an idea of what it looks like. We stretched a string along the
start/finish line and just “eyeball it” with a stop watch for time trials before we race.
The quickest time around it so far is 5:50.

(Photo by Marty Poteet) Here’s the line up of the Mini-T’s we run. Too bad they don’t have
Coupes, Midget, or Stock Car bodies available, but these little jobs are F-A-S-T. I’ll estimate
about $150.00 we’ve put into each car, and luckily all parts are replaceable.
A lot of fun for backyard BBQ’s, “Eddyville Speedway” keeps us guys off the streets and out of trouble. Sometimes. (Heh-heh!)
