DCH Christmas drive 09

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I realize that most people do not start thinking about Christmas yet, but due to all of the prep and work that goes into this, I have to start early.
Thanks Bruce
Dear Racers & Friends,
In these rough times, I realize how hard it is for all of us. Can you imagine how hard it is for an organization that relies on donations. If everyone who reads this would donate at least $5.00 or would purchase a $5.00 gift, this could be the best Christmas ever for many less fortunate kids.
As many of you know, since 1993 I have done my annual Christmas drive, since 1998 I have worked with Denver Children’s Home (DCH).
Once again it is time for me to start my Christmas drive. For anyone who does not know about my project, I take donations for the kids for Christmas. In the past we have taken NEW toys, hats, t-shirts, pictures, posters, cash, and anything else that people wish to donate. These donations will help provide a much brighter holiday season for some less fortunate kids. Donations are tax deductible and all proceeds go directly to DCH.
The Denver Children’s Home is a non-profit treatment facility providing food, clothing, recreational activities and school supplies as well as treatment for more than 450 troubled children yearly.
I hope that with your support that we can provide a much happier holiday
and make a big difference in some young lives. I wish to thank everyone for their support in the past and I hope that I can count on your continued support with this worthwhile endeavor. The kids range in age from 10-18.
For more information, I can be reached at home at 303-460-0129 or on my cell at 720-299-6805. Donations can be dropped off at my house, which is located at 10431 Moore St. Westminster, Co. 80021 or at my work, the Thornton city shop, located at 12450 N. Washington St. Donations can also be left with Joe Starr or dropped off at Sid’s Auto Service, which is located at 16360 South Golden Road. They can also be sent directly to DCH 1501 Albion St, Denver Co.80220. Anyone needing a tax deduction form, send me an address and I will mail you one.

Thank You,
Bruce Rhoades

I just thoght that I would share this info from DCH

Bruce,

I just left you a voice message. Thank you so much for all your past support of Denver children’s Home, especially during the Holidays. You have helped to bring the Holiday spirit to our kids. We are gearing up for the Holiday season this year and we will be starting our annual Holiday Toy Drive early to mid November. I am asking you to consider participating in this event. Your donation will help make the Holidays bright for our kids. Attached is the Holiday Toy Drive information. Please let me know if you would like to participate.

Thank you,

Denver Children’s Home (DCH) serves traumatized, abused and neglected children ages 10 - 18, and our philosophy is to serve those children with the greatest financial and emotional need. Ninety-five percent of the children at the Home are from low-income families who are unable to afford private health care.

The Holidays are very hard for the children since many are not able to go home to their families during the Holidays. Although the staff tries to make the Holidays a warm and happy time for our kids, DCH must turn to the generous support of individuals and corporations during the holiday season.

DCH Kids’ Wishes Drive
The kids at DCH have written down their wishes for the holidays. Each ornament has a child’s name, age, and wish. Simply shop for the item on the card and we will make sure that that child receives his wish.

Family Wish List Drive
The families of the children we serve are often going through difficult times and need our help during the holiday season. We will send you a holiday wish list for one or more of our families. We provide you with each member of the family’s first name, age, gender, and 3 wishes that are $20 or under.

General Toy/gift Drive
Please feel free to organize your own toy/gift drive. Put out a box/barrel in a central location in your office and let your friends and coworkers donate what they wish. Suggested items that the kids need and want on an ongoing basis are CD players, CD’s (popular music), batteries, headphones, I-tunes gift cards, musical instruments, sheet music, craft supplies, art supplies, and gift cards from Target, Wal-Mart, and JC Penny. DCH is willing to bring and pick up the box/barrel for you if needed.

Essentials Drive
The kids at DCH are just like any teenager, they like fun stuff for the holidays. However, their essential needs sometimes overshadow what they want. New undergarments, toiletries, and items for their dorm rooms are not covered by State funding and most often not donated during the holidays. These new items include: underwear, bras, socks, pajamas, slippers, belts, shampoo & conditioner, deodorant, hair removal products like Nair, Hair spray, tampons, toothpaste & brushes, African American hair products, twin comforters, twin bed sheets, dark colored towels, alarm clocks, plastic hampers, and plastic hangers.

Your choice holiday Drive
The Denver community has always been so generous to us at the Holiday season. Each year we are overwhelmed with how individuals and corporations donate to us in such creative ways. Let us know how you would like to help, whether it be backpacks, canned food, stocking gifts, books, candy, stuffed animals, etc. We welcome your suggestions and donations.
THANK YOU ON BEHALF OF EVERYONE AT DENVER CHILDREN’S HOME.
