A terrific shot I bought from the great Ken Coles. "Ol' Eugene" settin' up the Bowes Seal Fast Kuzma dirt champ car for turn four. The Indianapolis state Fairgrounds dirt mile, the 1964 Hoosier 100. This is the ex-Agajanian car that Parnelli Jones drove as the Willard Battery Special in 61, 62, and 63. Jud came in 4th in this race. This is the guy who hated pavement, but put a dirt champ car in the field, and out qualified some rear engine cars on the Indianapolis Raceway Park road course!!! The dude could drive.

Don't know if I've mentioned it on this site or not, but one of my favorite Jud Larson stories concerns the first time he tried to qualify a roadster for the 500.

A car owner or mechanic asked him if there was anything they could do to help him get out of turn 2 faster, and Jud said, "Yeah, go down there and throw dirt clods at me as I come through."
