Wow! I just reviewed the rosters and there are a lot of Utah Teams & Drivers at this year's Turkey Night. My favorite from Utah is Kipp Posey, who has dominated the Ford Focus Midget class in Salt Lake City. Plus, Kipp has moved up to a Wysong-Chassis sprint car last season and is sure to be a top contender this coming season @ RMR in SLC, UT. Man, I'm sorry now that I didn't make the trip to Irwindale for this one. Happy Holidays everyone! ~VB

Buzz, thanks for posting this. This is one race I've always wanted to attend. Maybe one of these days. They always have an amazing roster, really the cream of the crop.

Hey, Chris. It appears that the Utah contingency didn't perform all that well in last night's races. However, congratulations to the lone Colorado midget team/driver for taking 2nd place in the midget main event. An awesome performance by 2D (R) LEVI ROBERTS/Broomfield, CO Marc DeBeaumont/F & F Mechanical – Majestic Metals/Beast/Esslinger Ford.
So, let's plan on attending next year's Turkey Night! We can all meet in Vegas and go from there. I'm putting it on my Bucket List right now. ~VB

Here's where my dirt bias really comes through. I went to Ascot Park Speedway several times in the mid to late 80's and was at the very last "Turkey Night Grand Prix" at Ascot in 1990. I went back in 1995 when Agajanian's had it at Ventura Speedway. Having seen Ron Shuman, Stan Fox, Rich Vogler, Sleepy Tripp, Brad Noffsinger, Rip Williams, Bubby Jones, Jimmy Sills, sling mud on a cool foggy So. Cal night, it's too hard to imagine watching a Turkey Night on the pavement. I'm sure it's still a fun night, but back at Ascot it was midgets only, usually 80 cars (107 in 1990), so they had several consolation and semi mains. They did not need a sprint car and focus support division, crowd was always huge, and the best Thanksgiving meal I have still ever eaten was a Ascot Park, "Carnita's Burrito" and a 24 oz Miller Lite, man what memories!! However, I'd try to make the Saturday (after Thanksgiving) "Glenn Howard Memorial" sprint car race on the dirt at Perris!

I couldn't agree with you more, Mitch, when it comes to a dirt-show vs a pavement-show. Although not on Turkey Night, I too have been to Ventura Speedway many times and watched most, if not all, of the great drivers that you just listed. But, I never did make it to Ascot before it closed. My last trip to Ventura was back in the fall of 2004 and it was just a regular Saturday night race that drew over 100 racecars (midgets + sprinters) and all for a $14 grandstand seat right on the shores of the Pacific Ocean. However, I would still go to the Irwindale pavement Turkey Night at the drop of a hat! ~VB
