Fellows, I just found this forum a few weeks ago and it brings back many memories for me.
In 1965 my family traveled to Colorado on vacation and we attended Lakeside Speedway. Although I was use to seeing dirt races and the super sprint cars back east the old coupes at Lakeside reminded me of the 50's back here in WV and Ohio as a kid. There seemed to be at least 100 of them that night and what a night it was. I'd never seen sparks and smoke like that before. And the crashes were plentiful. If I remember right it seems like some of the front stretch fence was torn down that night at Lakeside.
Then in 1969 I was in the service in Colorado Springs during the summer. Besides taking in the racing at the 2 local tracks Pikes Peak and the CS International (I think that was the name of it.) on the east edge of town I made the trip up to Englewood a lot of Sunday nights that summer to the races.
That was a great summer to say the least.
Several years ago I had a web site with old racers from West Virginia/Ohio area and a guy named Jerry Tollivar was sending me some great old stuff from Colorado for my site. Unfortunately, I had to let the site go. Needless to say I lost all of the stuff Jerry had sent me. I do have a new site if anyone is interested. It's more of a forum type site but anyone from anywhere is invited to take a look and add anything you want to add. Looking forward to looking through this site. I love the old coupes and midgets.
