A beautiful hand tinted portrait of a class team. From Ethel Kouba's album, photo by Duchess Studio. Mom really like these guys, her photoalbum has a #3 decal alongside Lloyd Axle's #5 and Bert McNeese's #55 decals. this photo is dated 1946.

Jimmy, thanks for posting that, I know you've got lots of stuff, so keep it coming!
That car is powered by a Drake motorcycle engine, they went to an Offy the next year. That's the car that won the RMMRA title in 1948 and 1949, Curt Stockwell bought that car and it ran in Denver for years, I think this was the last midget to get upside down with out a roll cage, in 1970? with Kenny Wilson at the wheel at Lakeside Speedway. Lois Stockwell sold the car to a guy in Northern California and he restored it beautifully, it was nicer than the car had been when new. I was in Belleville in the early 90's and Lois had a photo of the car that the new owner had sent her after the restoration, man it was awesome! Not sure where the car is now, maybe still in California. Oh yeah, this car was also painted Plaid one year, my dad remembers it, said it was beautiful. Bob Olds was involved in painting it Plaid, at least that's what he told me.

I couldn't resist, right out of Bill Hill's book, Miles Spickler and Roy Bowe the RMMRA title winning team in 1949. Man what I'd give to see a good color photo of this car!

Olen McGuire did a wonderful job colorizing this photo. My dad saw the car race but was not sure of the exact colors, so I asked Olen to do a couple versions, and I think this one is close. I'm still trying to pin down exactly what color Plaid this car really was. Pretty cool eh?

The car was only painted this way for one year, 1949

Nice coloring job. I think red plaid would be more correct than green plaid.

For some reason, I seem to remember a color photo of this car with a yellow and black color scheme. Maybe on the old CRM site? Or I was just imagining. But I like Olen's version better.
