The first race I ever attended was the 1962 Rex Mays 100 at the Wisconsin State Fair Park Track, the term "Milwaukee Mile" hadn't been coined yet! How exciting to watch Don Davis hang with the big guys, in his upright dirt car, power sliding through the asphalt turns like he was driving on dirt. Blew a tire and came back out and finished fith! I was hooked. Then got into the USAC late models, Parnelli in the Stroppe Mercury winning seven in a row! Really enjoyed the modifieds, (and sportsman), at the all the dirt tracks, Hales, Slinger, State Fair, and Cedarburg. Made a couple trips down to Chicago, O'Hare, and Illiana, too! Great memories. Will be a real shame to see the Milwaukee Mile go away. Haven't been there since the remodeled!
