I wanted to say thanks to Eric and his staff for all the hard work that went into the production of this website. Without this opportunity, myself and many others around the country would not be able to share their stories and photographs of the sport of racing.
My name is Rick Losh. I am a signpainter/pinstriper, and a Colorado native. I am 56 years old and I have had the pleasure of watching, lettering, pitting, competing for/against other racing enthusiasts since 1965. I have pictures and stories that I will share with people who visit this great website. My user name is Superstroke.

Rick Losh has done some of the nicest numbering, and lettering jobs in the history of the Denver area motorsports scene. Rick, you are a invaluable resource for Denver, and Colorado racing history. In fact, that would be a great thread, round up photo's of the Denver area's great scribes, Rick Losh, Pete Brandenberg, George Woodward(spelling?), Joel Uell (spelling but pronounced You-el), "Three fingered Louie", I can't remember Louie's last name, and many others. How bout it?

Hey Mitch,
Was that Lou Paiz you were thinking of?? (I think that spellings right) He lettered many a car in the day as well.

I second that motion, I'd love to see some of the stuff done by the regional race car letterers. A lot of good leaf work showed up on the Lakeside Speedway midgets of the sixties, and also on a fair amount of the tow trucks of the day, as well as drag cars. It was just a good time for good lettering. Something I could never do, but admired that done by others.

To all of you, Thanks for the kind comments.
It is apparent that I love the sport. I am very passionate of my craft as well. I would certainly upload any photos of the work of local painters that I have in the archives.
I have worked with a number of great artists from Colorado. Just to mention a few:
Louie Allison (3 fingered Louie) I will post some pics of his top fuel days
Dick Alberico. Dick is one of the guys that lettered Jolly Ranchers racers including Don Wilsons beautiful #1
George Woodward. George was responsible for the lettering on almost every midget in the old days. He also signed the Kenz and Leslie streamliner.
Lou Paiz. I cannot remember exact cars that he had done, but he did plenty.
Ron Avers. Ron is the gifted artist that painted and signed the Assassination.
Joe Broxterman. A great artist who has performed his magic on anything that moves.
John Hedburg. Johns shop, Hed Sign Shop, was the go to guy for Sam Sauers great looking modifieds and midgets.
I have attached a few cars lettered and striped by my good friend Louie Allison or as many of you refer to him, 3 fingered Louie.
Louie lost his fingers when he was in his teens. He was trying to clear a snowblowers shoot when it caught his glove. OUCH.....Fun guy to be around and Louie also is a retired top fuel driver. He won 2 national events in the IHRA. He went 318 mph.....way faster than my 70mph at Lakeside.

Holy Smokes!!! Is this your handy work Rick? The Watson roadster is in my opinion, the most beautiful race car ever built. Only 23 exist, many reproductions, and copies were made, A.J. Watson never did mind giving his plans to other builders. This recreation is wonderful, give us the rest of the story (I know some of the background of this recreation).

Yep, I'm gonna do a post about the real DC Watson roadster as soon as I can. I saw in another photo, Bob Olds, Foster Campbell, and Chuck Arnolds son signed the underside of the engine cover on this car. Olds was the painter on the original Myron "Ozzie" Osborn roadster, back in 1961. I believe Foss Campbell was crew chief.
