One of about a half dozen tracks in the Milwaukee/Southeastern Wisconsin region. The modifieds running these tracks were banded together under the MSC-"Milwaukee Stock Cars" banner, which had idividual track championship as well as an over all championship. Drivers had the option of displaying there point standing from the previous year as there car number. USAC, did that, too! Here's my favorite, Hales Corners Speedway, great action for fifty some years, till it made way for a Menards and Urban sprawl in 2003.

Hey Slim,
Great action photos of the modifieds at Hales Corner. Any idea of the years, possibly early sixties????
Thanks for the nice info.

Mid to late sixties, I was with Uncle Sam by this time! The color shots are right before they started tearin' her down!

I agree with Webby, those are some great pics. If this video from YouTube is any indication, they must have been some great races there.

Great Modified Pics! I started going to Hales the last couple years they ran. 1971 was their last year there. Here are some pics from the early 70's including Al Schill #80 Nova in the first year for the Late Models - 1972.

Second picture is Lee(or Keith Sonns) I can never remember which and Bernie Binon "the Rubber Ducky". Everyone thought Bernie and I might be racing for the Championship that year and we did give a hell of a run. However, we forgot about Mike Klecker!!!! I had a '64 Ford Galaxie #43 with a mural of a duck hunter on the trunk shooting up the behind of a duck, feathers flying and all! Everyone got a laugh out of that.

Ah, you mean this guy:

Now that you mention it, I vaguely remember that painting on your trunk. Where did you finish in '72?

I ended up totalling that car about 3 wks before the end of the season. Was running 3rd or 4th at that time. I missed 3 nights of racing while I switched back into the old 62 car. I worked and only had one guy helping at that time. Anyway, dropped to a tie for 7th (I think) with Jimmy Hendricks. He went on to run number 7 1/2 the next year. I updated the 62 into a late model for the following year. I may still have the original drawing of the "Ducky Hunter". If I can find it, I'll try to post it. I still have things like that and my office here at home is full of pics of all my old racers and street rods I've had.

Yea, that would be the guy. He was some sort of smooth.I used to like watching him qualify when he'd come drifting of turn two onto the back stretch. I didn't get along very well with him for a long time. Seems he couldn't stay out of my left rear quarter panel!!!!! He hit me so hard going into turn 3 at Slinger that my crew could see my driveshaft from up on the pit hill!!!!!!!!!! We're okay now tho. Haven't seen him in probably 30 years.

Pics would be great!!
Just wondering how well you might have known some of the guys my family knew personally. We went to church with Dick Duston, also knew Ron Howden and Jeff Bodendorfer.
Here's another pic of Mike Klecker.

Didn't know any of them personally. Raced against Ron a lot in the early 70's, he could really haul that brown and black 57 Chevy around! Anyone who was ever around racing in the Milwaukee area knows who Dick Dustin is! Hell of a modified driver, and slightly crazy sometimes. I'm not familiar with Jeff. Don't remember exactly when, but I ran side by side for a feature win with someone and on the last lap, Ron blew by both of us on the outside coming out of turn 4 a Hales......unbelievable. Funny how that stuck in my mind. Believe me, I had a lot of respect for him after that! This sight is really bringing back a lot of very old memories, and I'm enjoying them.

I have wonderful memories of Hales Corners and the other tracks in the Southeastern Wisconsin area such as Cedarburg, Slinger, and Beaver Dam.
After finding this site at work today, I spent the whole evening scanning all of the pictures in my scrapbook.
I'm going to post a few here, then I'll put the rest on my website. Most of what I have is photos of the Sportsman class from 1972 and 1973. I've even posted the Late Model and Sportsman standings for 1971 and 1972.
I helped Donn Schumann back then. He raced the #271 1960 Ford Starliner, the #271 1962 Ford Fairlane, the 1957 #71 Fairlane (Jimmy Blazek's old sportsman when he went to Late Models) and finally, the #50 1958 Fairlane (same chassis).
Donn passed on in 2003, but those years back then were some of the best years of my life. Enjoy the pictures.
I'm still trying to figure out how to give everyone the link to my album.
