Southeastern Wisconsin modifieds and sportsman, in the dirt . They also served beer ot 18 year olds with a proper ID, in retrospect, not a good thing! lol Not sure when the track was paved, I was gone from the scene then, but atteneded a few Slinger Nats in the late eighties. They paved and cleaned up that track real nice! Now it reminds me of the wooden bowl at the stat fair where the motorcycle daredeviles would ride around and defy gravity! Here's some pictures:

Hey Slim,
Thanks for the photos. One thing for sure, those boys liked the front nerf bars. Big & strong.
It really is interesting the different choices around the county depending on the era.

You're right about it being like a speedbowl, Slim. Flagged an ASA race there, and it reminded me a lot of Anderson. Once again, loved working races in Wisconsin. Fun but tough on the liver.

I hear ya John, I had to leave it alone, finally! I hear the nerf bar comments all the time now, just took em for granted back then! Yes they are huge! Thanks for the comments!

Hi Slim, Those modified are just plain cool. I saw modifieds similar to them a O'hare. They were insanely fast. I'm curious, did these cars run in Chicago?
I remembered two more names, these guys ran Cadets at O'hare, Dick Seffens and Dieter Holtz. Do you remember them? I think at the time I saw them they both were driving '55 Chevys.
Thank you for sharing your photos they are terrific.

I had relatives living in Chicago then, and my brother and I would spend a few week, each summer, with them. I always managed to see a couple of races down there each time. O'Hare being my favorite. The modifieds you see here did run regulary in the Chicago area, some of the tracks that come to mind are Wilmot, Rockford, Waukegan and I am sure there were others, too I Don't remember those particular Cadet drivers, but I sure did dig those Cadets, kind of like the Milwaukee Sportsmen but cleaner, cooler, louder, faster and better looking! Real racecars, as opposed to amateur cars!
Thanks for the comments, I'm liking this forum, real well!

AWESOME PICS LOUIS! A little before my time but I recognize Frank Smith and "Stock Car" Willie Sieske. By any chance were you a photographer at the track? or are those the pics you could buy at the track? I have been trying to find out if the negatives for the pics they used to sell at Hales still exist. The ones that I have were either taken by Ray, Paul, Marty (RPM) or Russ Lake Photography. Seems I heard a while back that one bought the other out.

Former Hales Corners driver Pat Heaney purchased the RPM collection as well as some other photographers. He has a very large collection from 1956-2003. You can contact him at patrickheaney2796@sbcglobal.net

It's always fun to see these old pics! Definitely contact Pat Heaney for old pics. By the way, that is not Willie Sieske driving in the checkered flag pic. That would be me, Rett Rundell. I wrecked on Saturday nite and Willie offered his car to me for Slinger on Sunday. He still has that '57 in his back yard!!!!!
