It will be great to have Larry back behind the wheel. I've seen the car and it's taking shape real well. It should look pretty close to the orange #38 when it's finished. Good luck to Larry and Greg for the coming season.
Thank God the medical report is good news.
Go get 'em Larry

Thank you Rick and Thank you Olen,
The photo that Olen put up is from 1995 and is my second #29 which is still in my garage. It is often mistaken for the first #29. That was exactlly the idea when it was built as a tribute to the late Ed Mailo. It even fooled Eddie Mailo Jr. at a car show years ago.
Thomas, the photos that Rick put are of the first #29 taken in 1974. We did pretty well with that car, I never should have sold it.
By the way I got rid of the huge wing. I never wanted one that big, but I let myself get talked into it. I was glad to see it in the back of somebody elses truck rolling out of my driveway.
Go Larry!:checker:

Neat car, I like it. Thanks for posting the photos. I'm always looking for more ideas of stockers, modifieds and cut-down cars to build in model car form. I have a '32 Chevy Roadster kit that can serve as the basic idea, I'll have to fashion a 3 window top for it; oddly in plastic scale MPC only produced only the '32 Chevy Roadster and a '32 Chevy Panel Delivery truck, but not a coupe, even a 5-window coupe would have been great to build.

Hey Chris, I didn't notice that the one you have in your avatar was a three window coupe until I posted Jerry Lee's pic. They are both neat cars and worth looking at. And I agree about getting rid of the wings. ~Olen :applaud:

Gladly,
The #29 with the wing was built in 1982 and is a '32 Chevy on a tube chassis that Mike Colitti and I built from blueprints from Ed Bruuner's Trans Am late model and is a copy of a Dennis Frings chassis, low and rigid, no flex. In my opinion Mr. Frings was a genius. This chssis worked great right out of the gate. Engine is a 355 Chev 4 bolt with oringinal LT-1 heads that have been ported. Originally machined by Joe Blackburn at the Block Shop. Engine was rebuilt by Tak Shiramizu at Tak's Automotive. The car runs a Frankland quick change. We used a Ford late model 3-speed from Better Bilt. The front end is a '37 Plymouth tube axle with CAE cross spring off a sprint car. We use Howe hubs and disc brakes as well as a Mustang II power rack. The car was painted by Miles Auto Body and lettered by Rick "Superstroke" Losh and later additional signage was done By Dale Moore.
The #29 3-window was an old Larry DeChant car that we rebuilt in 1973. After a big wreck we put the 3-window body on. The car was a 1931 Chev on a '31 Chev frame. We ran the original 4 springs. Front was a Chev 3/4-1 ton axle with 8 lug hubs. The rear was a later '50's 3/4 ton Chev that came out from under Roy Jackson's first late model. We narrowed it 6" and ran 8 lug hubs. The engine was built by Larry DeChant and was a 4 bolt 302. It was an original "DZ" block. We ran a 780 Holley carb that was new for a Z-28. It was maintained all season by Louie Walker. He found every ounce of horse power it had. The body retained it original steel sides and used 26 gauge tin for the hood and deck lid. The car was painted by Terry Boyle and lettered by Mike Young.
We ran 15" wide wheels and 15" wide Goodyear slicks. We finished in the top 5 in points in '74 with the late Ed Mailo driving.
The new McLaughlin car is being built by Greg McLaughlin and is on a Dennis Frings copy chassis that originally was built by Phil Jones with measurements from my car. They will run a solid front axle with wide 5 hubs and disc brakes. The rear end is a Halibrand quick change that had been under Rick Carelli's #6 modified. Dan Pierce did some work on the side housings. It has coilover shocks all around. The car will run a Model A Ford body. Word is the car will be painted similar to Larry McLaughlin's Lakeside #38 from the late '70's. It will run a smallblock Chevy that is currentlly in the machine shop. I heard Craig Moore will lend a hand. I think maybe Gene Batt as well. Dale Moore is slated to letter the car. Your's trully contributed a new camshaft and Larry McLaughlin has been putting many hours on it too.
The McLaughlin's plan racing at Cheyenne, Wyo. with High Plains Modifieds.
