I copied this off the HAMB site, one of their members was shooting color photo's at Reading, PA fairgrounds for a early 1970's USAC sprint car race. This is a shot he took in the pits of someone holding a scale model of a sprint car. There were no details in the post about the photo. I've seen many scale models, both handmade, and factory produced, but this is one of the finest I've ever seen. It's remarkably accurate, the tubing scale for the nerf bars, the frame tubing, the way the nose cone wraps around the front of the frame, it's just perfect!

Here' a link to Don Edmunds site, not only did he build some of the most beautiful race cars ever to hit the speedway, check out the incredible models he builds now!! These will blow your mind. If any of you other ARM members have photo's of one off, or small run scale models, post them on this thread

I believe Terry Plumber has built some museum quality 1/4 scale models also, these are $20,000 pieces from what I've been told, and I can see why.

Wow! Don's models are some of the coolest I've ever seen! Hard to believe some of them are scale models. If you click on to the site Mitch has put up, be sure to check out the cool racing pics in Don's Bio as well.

Here's one of the model cars that's on my wish list. Built in the USA by Jan Gilmer, these RC Midgets are now collector's pieces....

WOW ! There have been some incredible models displayed on this site over the last couple of days . I went to the Don Edmunds link and clicked on full size cars just to relive some great racing memories . Under the heading of Indy cars i noticed a photo of Bobby Unsers' Pikes Peak Hill Climb car , the number 92 Sproul Homes car . From the photo it looks like it might be in the middle of restoration . Course i don't know how old the photo is .

Mitch, I just joined today, and I'm the one that posted the picture of the model on the Hamb,I met this lady at a USAC race at Reading in the mid 70's and from what I remember the lady said her son scratch built this model and being 12 or 13 years old at the time, and building models I had to take a picture of it,I had plans to build on myself but never got around to it.Thanks for posting my photo,I'm glad people enjoyed them on the other site and hope to post those shots here for everyone here to enjoy unless they already were posted her.....Rich

Bob, that #3 Speedcar looks like the car Gene Genetton brought to Australia in the '80s (sans cage of course). I remember watching him and Graham Jones go at each other at Claremont Speedway in a 25 lapper and Jones beat Genetton by half a car length after a race long battle that had the fans on their feet. That was toward the end of the halycon days of Speedcar racing, when they were still as much a crowd puller as the Sprintcars.

AussieR,
Mate I was lucky enough to witness those days of midget racing in Australia, back in the day. They were much bigger then than sprintcars are now. Having said that, it was different times and much less competition for the entertainment dollar.
I still like to go and catch the midgets. They always put on a show at Sydney Speedway.
