Here’s a look at some Modified action at Englewood Speedway during the 1960’s.

(J.L. McGuire collection) This 1964 photo shows how some were starting to cut down and
narrow their full bodied Modified coupes for a smaller, sleeker look. Spike Mock #29 flips
in front of the pack featuring Les Berry #60, Mike Reynolds #141, John Shine #71, and
Les Heinlen #171.

Thank You. Seems like yesterday. I'm looking for pictures I have from that era but nothing as cool as this. Have some great color shots of 1E and John Pierce. Now to find them.

Wow some very action packed photos. I really enjoy the wide range of cars you posted, several drivers I had not known of but I did move from Colo in 65.

Thanks for the great post.

(J.L. McGuire collection) The track looks pretty slick and wet for some reason in this mid-‘60’s
action shot from Englewood. I’m unsure of the exact year and the participants in this melee.
(The #88 could be Dick Baty) It looks like someone used a coffee can and some spray paint to
make the numbers on the 88 car.

Englewood. About to be in the mix are Vern Waymire #26, Rodger Webb #50, and Ken
McDonald #103. The #103 was the twin car to Larry Dechant’s #100 car that year.
Both had the ‘Chinese style’ numbering. More photos of the Dechant car can also be
seen in the Modifieds forum here on ARM.

(Irwin Fogel collection) These Modifieds lined up for a 1970 trophy dash make a
beautiful site. Bud Chrisinger #8 leads them off followed by Jim Opperman #10 and
Jim Venable #166. Pete Stringer #27E is 5th back with the taller roll cage. Wayne
Stallsworth #5 (who took the championship that year) sits second to last while Joe
Lehman #6 brings up the rear with the quick time this night.

(J.L. McGuire collection) OK, so this isn't from the '60's, but what a cool 1971 ad
for the Bear Valley Bank not far from the speedway. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe
this could be Tom Frantz.
