I was always curious as to what kind of times those Midgets were turning around Lakeside's little bullring. Parrot once noted that at sometime during the '40's, Lakeside was known as the fastest 1/5 mile track in the nation.

I am lucky enough to own a couple of old Lakeside programs from the '40's, but there are no times written in. A lot of great names from the past are in it though!

If anyone happens to have a completed time sheet from earlier than '49, I would love to see it here, or just quote a few quick times.

Ask and yee shall receive. Here is the cover from a 1948 RMMRA Lakeside Speedway, program, and the track record page, with a close up of Buddy Shay's track records, looks like Shay had a lock on every record except 50 laps, which was held by Burton Spickler, Wow, Shay really new his way around Lakeside. By the way, Shay finished 2nd in points in 1948, Roy Bowe won the title that year. I have a July 4th RMMRA, Lakeside Speedway program that has 2 hand written times in it, car #30 (no driver listed) owned by Vic Alstat, a V8-60 turned a 16:22, and car #34 driven by Wes Goovin, Kurt Stockwell's also a V8-60 turned a 15:39. I've included a photo of the car Shay drove in 1948, taken at Pikes Peak Speedway, in Colorado Springs, in the Julius "Buzz" Bussard Kurtis Kraft Offy, #6. If you can't make it out, the one lap record reads 13:59
