I am not sure who is the driver of this great looking modified stocker, but it sure looks like Don Hughes. It looks like it is going to be another great night of racing though, from the looks of this picture.

I believe that this car was owned by Al Starr before he bought the green #7 from Hefley, I bought this body from Al Starr in 1980 and had planned to use it on my first modifed before I purchased the former Jeff Anderson Chevy. I rember Al telling me that, I think Ken Nelson had driven it for him.

My late father-in-law Dale Beagle helped Gene with the building of CNS, they were real good friends, and downed a few at Twins Inn, 58th and Sheridan Blvd.

Here is the green 7.

Thomas,
Funny thing that you should mention Twins Inn as they were one of the sponsors on my first race car.

My dad-in-law and I would stop by Twins in every once in a while.

The twins, Shorty and Phil McGinn, where very affable fellows, and would pop tens bucks for gasoline if we stopped by on our way out to CNS. That was in '68-'69.

BTW - I haven't been to a race since they closed Lakeside and paved CNS.

I'm having a little trouble with the year of this version of the #51 so did a little searching through my old programs. Couldn't find the car featured in any of them, but the driver's eyewear reminds me of Ken Nelson. Both Jim Smith and Ken Nelson were listed as drivers between the years of 1966 and 1969.
