In response to Webby's posting of the beautiful Stan Lee midget, here's some history on some of Lee's midgets, and drivers.

Rick Goudy in Stan Lee's Edmunds "Auto-craft" VW midget at Colorado National Speedway August 1st, 1978 for the annual USAC midget swing through Denver. Goudy was 13th quick with a 19:58 (46 cars in the pits), he was 4th in his heat, and 6th in the main. The next race was Aug. 4th at CNS Goudy and Lee did not attend. For 1979 my records show Norman "Bubby" Jones in the wheel house of Lee's VW he timed at 19:73 at CNS 41 cars attended Jones was 18th quick I have no race finishes. July 29, 1980 again USAC national midget tour at Colorado National Speedway, I have Leland McSpadden in the seat, 40 cars in the pits Leland times in at 19:41 Quick time for the night. Again I didn't keep race notes, but I believe this is the night McSpadden tangled on the front chute and took a horrendous flip starting near the start finish line, ending down near turn 1. My memory tells me the car flopped to a stop on it's left side and seemed to have broken in half at the engine fire wall, this was a typical full speed midget disaster which we saw several of at CNS during the 70's. I don't have any year books to fill the gaps between 1973 and 1978, none were published that I know of. For 1976 I have Mel Kenyon in the Lee midget for the USAC 2 night CNS show, a slim field of 23 cars were there, Mel was 17th quick, Buddy Taylor set a New Track Record for USAC that night at 18:89 in Vern Shaver's Edmunds VW. that was July 23, USAC was at Englewood the previous night, July 22, 25 cars at Englewood Kenyon was 10th quick at 16:04. As for the big "Thanksgiving Night Grand Prix" at Ascot Park in Gardena, CA, November 23, 1978 USAC had 80 midgets in the pits for the 100 lapper, Rick Goudy was 9th quick with a 22:96 (quick time was Johnny Anderson at 22:72) Sleepy Tripp won the 4 lap dash, Tony Simon won the semi, and Goudy won the "Turkey nite" classic over Sleepy Tripp, Johnny Anderson, John Rahe, Colorado's Mike Gregg, Rich Vogler, Mel Kenyon. Other notable drivers in the 100 lapper were, Sammy Swindell, Leland McSpadden, Doug Wofgang, Johnny Parsons jr, future sprint car star and NASCAR driver Brad Noffsinger. Just came accross a 1970 program from the USAC midget race at Lakeside, Goudy was 17th quick at 13:11 out of 42 cars, Don "Spyder" Anderson was quick in the "Hainds and Ludwig Edmunds SESCO, at 12:77.
