Pat (Mike) Frazier ran a few modifieds at Lakeside, number "Sweet" 16 is one of them. This photo was from a car show at the Denver Coliseium. Pat also built several very competitive sprint cars; Pat Frazier passed away in October 2006.

Paul Garrison drove the 16 car, Merle Burrow drove it as well.

Thomas, I know from what you've written that you and Pat were good friends. I met Pat when I was working for Gene Plue. Yes sir, he was a nice guy. The #16 was a beautiful car. I remember Pat bringing it by Gene's shop I think on the way to the Sabers show. I was so impressed with it. At the time I had a '31 Chevy 3-window I was getting ready for Ed Mailo This was in 1974. Pat won "Best looking Car" that year. After the season was over I talked to a board member and was told that the board didn't want to give the award to Doug Plue again, they wanted someone different, so suppoedly it came down to Pat's car or mine. Pat was there more times than us and that broke the tie. That was ridiculous, it shouldn't have even have been in question. Pat's car was by far the best looking at Lakeside that year.

I think that Sonny Bramlett had driven for Pat the year before in a "root beer brown" #16.

I remember what I think was the first "Sweet 16", it was Jim Malloy's 32. I believe it was deep burgundy, chrome nerf's front and rear, probably kick offs chrome also just not sure.

I believe this was just before his Chevy sedan number 1. Early sixtys time frame.

True. Sonny Bramlett was Pat's brother-in-law, Sonny was married to Pat's sister Sharon. Sonny passed away, I do not recall the date.

This is what I have in my file for number "Sweet 16" and the Malloy brothers.

Michael "Pat(rick)" Frazier
November 28 1945 - October 13 2006

Most of the time to me he was “Michael", he called me "Tommy," we were friends almost 46 years. It is still hard to say I miss him.

We built a lot of model cars together, slot cars too. What did we build? Lakeside stockers and midgets what else.

We raced a figure 8 car at Lakeside Speedway. We pitted for Pat's step-dad Bob Wallace when he ran a cut-down modified at Englewood. Then our racing preferences changed but not our friendship. Pat stayed at Lakeside with modifieds, and he had one LM, he went on to building and racing sprint cars. I went to CNS and the fender cars, gave it up in ‘74. But I did go out a few times to help Pat with his sprint car #16 and #10 a few times at RMNS.

We could not see each other for weeks and take up were we left off. Argue about stuff, you know Fords vs Chevies, and never get upset and move on. We laughed at ourselves, and each other, especially when Michael would imitate Elvis, and I would follow with my Roy Orbison impersonation, we'd laugh, and say, "Thank you very much."

A truer and more loyal friend I could never have asked for.

I hope you have a Pat Frazier type friend in your life too.

It is April, 1974 and Pat Frazier (owner,on the right) and Paul Garrison (driver, on the left) unload Pats modified from the trailer. Its hot lap day at Colorados Lakeside Speedway and everyone is excited to shake down their cars. Mr. Fraziers modified won the Best Looking Car award and deserved it. This car was hand lettered by Monte Jumper, who also lettered many cars for Fritz Wilson. Behind Pats modified, you can see the red #54 Late Model driven by Joe James Jr. Another great photo from "Professor Coupe", Chris Ertler.

Rick, Thank you for posting this photo. I appreciate you doing this more than you know.

Thomas, I'm glad you like this photo. To me that those were the "good old days" when you didn't need enclosed trailers and diesel duallys to haul your race car. Regular working guys could build cars this beautiful in their own garage. I was very happy that Pat won best looking car that year. They definately picked the right guy.

Chris . . .

Pat my life long friend truly deserved that award. Oh, you should have seen the two of us building models, when we in our teens, you know, up till all hours of the night regular guys, just like our Lakeside heros; we built more Lakeside cars than Englewood car cars. I couldn't quite grasp the cut-down consept, though I did like Joe Lehman's #6, and Jack Duckworth's (?) #50, and Wayne Stallsworth's full size #52 sedan and coupe. I do not remember Wayne ever running a cut-down, right?

Do you remember Harv Zimmerly's Englewood cut-down (#29 ?), it had a Buick straight eight.

"The good old days" . . . My father-in-law, Dale "Shorty" Beagle, hauled my stockers out to CNS in the back of a 1952 International R-190 dump truck. Gene Hefley and Shorty were real good friends and beer-thirty buddies, Shorty helped Gene with the building of CNS. Gene had fixed a place where I could unload my "Stocker" fairly easy out the dump box.

These days it gets a bit overwhelming. However the cars are safer for sure. I haven't been to a race since Lakedside closed and CNS was paved.

Ah yes, "The good old days."
