In the late seventies, Bob Brown purchased this pretty Nova late model stock car from Gene Carelli. Genes brother, Don Carelli had driven this car into victory lane many times at Lakeside and Englewood Speedways. These three shots were taken in the pits of Colorados Englewood Speedway. In the picture of the car from the grandstand side, we can see a number of figure 8 cars and a couple of late models. The yellow #90 figure 8 I believe belonged to Jack Voorheis. Sorry Jack if I spelled your name wrong. Also in this picture, the man who is walking toward the car is Arnold Wallace, who was Roy Jacksons Father-in Law.

In the picture of the car from the infield side, Joe James Jr (black T-Shirt), visits with a competitor.

And finally, the picture of the hood reveals the #36 figure 8er of 2 time champion Richard Burton. Also, it appers the trophy car for this evenings racing program, is receiving a little repair service.

I lettered this car, and it seems that the Englewood officials were not pleased with the idea of us using letters instead of numbers. We insisted that the numbers would be changed until they forgot or just gave up the battle. I guess I should mention that Bobs son, Jim Brown ended up driving this car. It was powered by a 454 Chevy and it was very tempermental. We were always fighting some problem with this car, and we did not make many shows. One night, Jim was hot lapping the car. It appeared to be running well for a change and he steered it into the pits, and exited the car, leaving it running. I thought that maybe there was trouble again, but Jim walked over to me and handed me his helmet. My legs went to rubber, as I had always told him that I would enjoy to hot lap the car some day when we did not have problems. After some briefing, I loaded into the car and waited at the gate for my turn to enter the track. My legs were shaking so bad that I could barely keep the cluth pedal down. Anyway, I got onto the track and stayed low, as I was told to do. I was by myself for several laps, and with every lap I thought I was going pretty fast. Suddenly, I heard something approaching from the rear as I was entering the west corner. Before I could take a breath, Roy Jackson being chased by Don Wilson went around me in a flash. Before I could exit the west corner, Roy and Don were already entering the east corner. WOW.....TOO COOL!!!

I do not know who took these photographs.

Always loved that car with the number spelled out in variegated leaf lettering. Similar numbering treatments were given to Lakeside modifides #SIX and SIXTY, (not sure of the year) but the Seven Seventy Seven was by far the best looking.
