From the Rick Losh collection, here is a shot of Lloyd Axle posing in the Pickup Special. I do not know much about this photograph. It was given to me when my grandfather passed on. I am told that my grandfather, Clarence Losh, turned a wrench or two for Mr. Axle. I have another picture of him posing in the Mapelli Offy #5. I will upload it soon. If you have any information about this picture, please post.

According to Bill Hill's great book "Decades of Daring" a history of the RMMRA released in 2000, Axel drove for Judd Pickup, in the 7-up car in 1939. Axel won 5 mains, and 4th in AAA midget points, for Denver that year, (before the RMMRA was formed). Pickup sold the car, and ride out from under Axel late in the season of 1939, Pickup had won a main in the car also that year, before giving the ride to Axel. 7-Up, gave Pickup $500 for a sponsorship that season.

Mom's (Ethel's) collection has a couple of great shots of Llyod. I have one of his pre-war midget, still #5 but not the famous Kurtis-Kraft. Still figuring out the board, will post pics soon.
