Question Looking for information

Does anyone on here recall a mechanic or team member, probably on champ cars and sprint cars, named Harold McCullough? Apparently worked with Foyt among others. A friend who is a relative is asking...

Re: Super Duke Cook!

Check out all the sponsors on that thing. Duke used to make it by getting a lot of smaller sponsorships. When he ran at IRP, he'd send in an entry blank with so many sponsors on it I'd have trouble...

Re: Different looking Sprint Car

Th:rant:at's what I was thinking, Mitch. They've come too far.

That new one looks like the illegitmate result of a one-night stand between a winged sprinter and a big bore modified.

Re: 70's & 80's Late Model Wizards

I have to go along with Croley. Dick Trickle was the first ASA guy to come into Louisville's old Fairgrounds Motor Speedway and drive it like he'd been there a dozen times. The black-and-white photo...

Re: WINCHESTER INDIANA

roll cage, at one time I had a history of every race at Salem from the beginning up to the 60s. Wish I knew what happened to it. Love to see your info. I also know some people who are heavy into the...

Re: "Wreckin!

.

That Cale Yarborough-Sam McQuagg photo in the 1965 Southern 500 is pretty special for me. The following year I helped Harry Hyde a bit with the first K&K car at Daytona. I was sitting on the pit...

Can't wait. I collect .jpg copies of old program covers and some pages.

Re: Vintage Speedway Program Ads

That Sun Valley Speedway ad is a great old one. BTW, that's Iggy Katona qualifying at Louisville Downs (a half-mile trotting track with a crushed limestone surface) in my avatar.

Re: Flag Colors Change Meaning in 1965

The blue was sometimes hard to differentiate from the black at night, particularly on older tracks when lighting wasn't so good. I think that was the reason the yellow diagonal strip was added when...

Re: I'm the webmaster!

Webby, you have some outstanding clip art. Wish I'd known about it (or you had it at the time) while I was doing ads for IRP from 1985 through 2000. If I ever get the budget in my current position,...

And I heard no one was there to accept for Jimmy Bryan. Sad.

Re: Do you know what that is?

Back in the late 60s, I flagged an ARCA race (it's the photo in my avatar) on a trotting track in Louisville, Ky. The surface was ground limestone. The photo shows Iggy Katona qualifying.

Re: Devils Motor Club

Here we go. Appears you had it exactly right. I saw this on a website with old logos a couple of years back. Thought it was cool so I copied it.

Re: Devils Motor Club

Great post. Love history like this. I've got a copy of that logo on file somewhere. I collect 'em. I'll try to find it.

Re: Vintage Speedway Program Ads

Lakeside's gone, but is Mr. Steak gone? There's another one I could pull the cartoon out of, redesign, and sell to someone for our program at Corbin. If I sell it, I'll mention it in my regular...

Re: Aircraft engine in a Sprint Car

If this is an old guy moment, I've had one, too - but not on the west coast. I can recall Ranger engines in sprint cars. One in particular was Bert Hellmueller of Louisville, Ky., who ran with IMCA...

No matter what era you're talking about, or where in the country you're talking about, we were ALL a little crazy "back then."

In regard to the wooden leg being carried from the wreck and scaring...

Re: What Does Your Avatar Mean!!

Mine is one of my favorite racing photos from when I was with ARCA. That's me flagging the only race ARCA ever held at Louisville Downs, a half-mile trotting track with a surface of crushed...

Every time I saw Dizz Wilson bring both cars to a race while Johnny White was driving, Johnny was in the yellow No. 70. I recall Dick Gaines and others driving the 71. Doesn't look like Gaines in...

Re: The Agajanian 98 dirt car

Great stuff. Interesting story. I always admired J.C. Agajanian and he was very nice to me, talking for a couple of hours one night after a midget race at Louisville. Later, while I was flagging for...

Re: DON STYES - Englewood flagman

Oh yeah, the "friendly conversations" were always fun, too. Back in the days before things got so sophisticated, all the belts in a harness setup came together near the floor behind the seat, where...

Re: DON STYES - Englewood flagman

Never got to meet the guy, but I love his style. I also like the fact that he worked the Figure 8 from the track. I was a flagman for 30 years and did the same. Loved working from the track, and got...

Re: Midget racer buried in Lakeside parking lot?

Speaking of finding change under the grandstands, while I was working at IRP I heard that at one time they used a neat trick for the cleanup after the U.S. Nationals.

Before the temp workers got...

Re: Indy 500 interesting again, with super mods.

I've been wondering for years why they couldn't put a roll cage on those missiles similar to what you find in a Top Fuel Dragster or Funny Car. You can't see anything but the driver's helmet, anyway....
