Vintage Speedway Program Ads - Auto Racing Memories

This might be kind of a 'dumb' thread to start, but then again, I'm not sure. Could be interesting. Let's see what you think.....

From whatever track I've visited over the years I've always loved the "speedway programs", from it's featured photos, driver listings, track news, club member listings, and, yes, even the ads that appeared inside. I especially liked the ads that featured a race car in them.

I started selling programs when I was 11 (and saved them long before that), and have ended up collecting way too many boxes of these things. I've even acquired many from way before I was born.

This thread features some cool or funny program ads I've run across. I'd love to see any that you might want to add as well....

1974 - Neat pic of Don Wilson in the Bob Olds Midget.

1964 - Dig Ody Fellows cool ride in this ad.

1949 - Mmmm, nothing like fine food and bad liquor!?! What the...?
Your "last race" indeed.

1968 - Crash Mullins gassing up before the races.

1961 - Apparently everyone (including drivers, clowns and patrons) knew
where this place was. They didn't leave an address or phone number.

1974 - "Shimmy & Shake ARE great on a woman", but not Pick Pickering's
#40 Late Model.

1966 - I would definitely let Joe Lehman service my car!

1974 - Wayne Stallsworth was well insured in this championship car.

1970 - Remember the old L & M?? It's no wonder they went out of business
with this low priced coupon. Ahhh, 1970 prices!

1975 - Running around naked or "streaking" was a big fad in the '70's.
This would get you arrested if you ran down to the concession stand
like that today.

1975 - Ever wondered where Ivan Chambers got all those cars
to build race cars with?? One word with a hyphen: "trade-ins!!!".

1956 - "Discover Good Taste" and don't forget the "church key"!

1961 - Remember how good these Rockybilts used to taste??

1967 - These Jet-X washers were super popular in the late '60's &
early '70's. They even sponsored Bobby Jackson back in the day.

1966 - Don Maus used to own the fast #1 Englewood Modified that
John Pierce wheeled during the '60's. Pete Brandenburg drew this neat
cartoon of the Enco "flame guy" in the #1 wearing roller skates for the ad.

1973 - Early '70's Englewood programs featured this Tiny Lund soda ad.

1959 - Sam Chavez was a busy guy being president of two race
car clubs and running three gas stations!

1961 - I could afford a new car now at 1961 prices!

Here are a few more............

1967 - Ollie's Round-Up was quite the hoot-an-hollar in it's day.
That must be the band peeking out the windows.

1966 - Seemed like there were hundreds of these bright orange drive-ins
all over the city back in the '60's.

1964 - Rich Codner kept his dad's motor rebuilding service
up and running for a few years after Charlie's death in 1961.

1968 - Remember when Burger King's actually looked like this??

1967 - This ad features a few famous local racing names. "Put a Tiger in your Tank"!

1995 - I just had to include this one, it's my Dad! In the 40 years he spent in the Denver area,
he was always known as "Mac" McGuire. Nobody knew him as "Olen". He ran his lock shop from
'78 - '98 and happily sponsored my race car. Thanks, Dad!!

Great thread, lots of memories, this is from a 1947 RMMRA midget race program.

What's really cool is the phone numbers, and pre-fix designation. When we moved into our brand new house in October of 1960 (my mom, dad, 4 month old me, and my 16 month older sister) in Lakewood, CO our phone number was YKN (Yukon) 1223, or 985-1223, those are cool interesting bits of history.

eat with them too!

1971 - You can say Stallsworth, but can you say "DUN-JUS"??

1972 - I actually bought my last car here 14 years ago. And then they closed.

1975 - Lakeside Mall was still a happening place in the mid-'70's.

1966 - Remember Tops??
They were supposed to never close!

1971 - Tommy Frantz needs money fast!!

These are cool.... I like the Jet "X" one as I came across an actual Jet "X" sprayer the other day still in the box... I can only imagine all of the Memorabilia you have...

That's when ads were simply & to the point. Cool looking at the graphics. Programs had ads from most any place in town that would give a few dollars. Brings back some great memories. Thanks
