I found this interesting......
The first image is the Lakeside Ball Park sometime in the mid-1930's with the original North/West stands, before any type of auto racing was done. The second shot is from about the same angle some 70 plus years later in 2007. Quite a story in between, eh? |

Hey Jerry,
Quite a contrast...Like Webby I have fond memories as a 12 to 16 year old watching the best drivers ever. What a time! Got to know a couple of the drivers, including Paul before he started and really never lost the love of the sport. Have followed racing ever since. Sad picture but this site keeps the past alive, thanks everyone!!!! Chuck |

Thanks Jerry Lee for those photos. Don't those stands look pristine and all, with the roof still on! Always enjoy history of Denver and especially Lakeside Speedway, where I spent many a Sunday night in those great seat back grandstands. Comfort AND right up to the edge of the track, could it get any better? Now I, like I'm sure a lot of others, dream of what could be if only the track could be restored. Fun to dream, but would be even more so if dreams came true once in a while.

Slightly different angle, but the same set of grandstands, and scoring observation tower. Got this photo from another ARM members gallery, but can't remember who, my apologies.
A close up of the same section of grandstands, you can see what must be CARC judges up in that booth. That's my dad, John Guttormson in his own #51, this was in 1953 or 54, not sure who he's running into. I'm sure Bill Peratt would know. Last edited by Mitch G.; 08-05-2011 at 12:42 PM. |

Thanks for posting these photos Jerry Lee. I was by Lakeside this afternoon taking Camaro out for a run. It really bothers me to see the old girl deteriorating, but at least it and the park are still there. If you drive by the site of Englewood Speedway at Oxford and Federal all you see is traffic and an industrial park. There are so many memories for me associated with Lakeside, I grew up there and still love the old place, and I'm just one of the many that feel the same way.
Thanks again. ![]() Chris Ertler - "professor coupe" |

I remember my Dad (Lyle McLaughlin) telling me about playing ball at the field when he was a young man. But what else would one do living in the town of Lakeside.
