The post of "Most amazing sprint car flip ever" took place at Ascot in 1972 as I was there that night. At the time I did not realize the driver had been "ejected" from the car until the following week when the CRA program mentioned that the driver had hit the seatbelt/shoulder strap release with his hand during the flip. IIRC he did receive some injuries, but cannot remember what they were.
Never realized that there was a video of this accident, so was quite surprised to see it. Ed |

...'Like the picture and caption says out of Tim Kennedy's 1972-73 CRA Sprint Car Yearbook, the driver of the car that was ejected after barrel rolling through turns 1 & 2 at Ascot Park was John Kellar from Yucaipa (CA). John was driving for one of the few lady sprint car owners in CRA, Elaine Hertzberg and her boyfriend, Larry Lewis. Elaine and Larry lived in Temple City (CA).

It's the #41 car partially running over the ejected driver that makes the whole event more bizarre. Gotta' be one of the luckiest drivers of all time. Great photo's and info LittleFauss. Crazy that our new member was actually there!
