Default Texas Late Model Asphalt Oval

Does anyone here remember John Foster (general manager of KMID Television Station in Midland, TX.)

John drove Late Model Stock Cars in the 60's and 70's?

Yes I remember him and J.D Hughes, both from TX, we ran with them several times in the 70's. Mostly at what they called Open Comp races back then in CO, TX, OK MO. They were both fast. My memory not very good anymore, I know JD's car was usually purple and it seems like Johns car was black.

Your memory still seems pretty good.

I had not thought of J.D. Hughes in years. If I remember correctly, he had one eye, and you needed to keep that in mind when deciding which side you were going to pass him on or he might just run over you!

Did you (by any chance) meet John Foster's crew-chief, or ever hear of Danny Bennett? Danny went on to build Late Models for Bobby Hillin Jr. up until the time Bobby went Winston Cup.

I think I may have talked to him at an All Pro race we ran many years in San Antonio, not sure. I think John was there and I remember talking to him and his crew. I think Rick Crawford won the race?????

Rick Crawford or could it have been FRANK Crawford?

Was the winner by chance driving a black Nova? Maybe #46?

The Nova I am referring to was built by Danny Bennett and driven by John Foster, but sold to Frank Crawford out of Midland, Tx. late 70's .

I know John Foster ran San Antonio, Houston Raceway Park, and Texas World Speedway.

I think your memory is still better than mine!

Pretty sure it was Rick, He competed a lot in the All Pro Series before he moved up to NASCAR Trucks! All Pro, during those days, was a premier late model series, ran mostly in the southeast, I believe. I do remember that Ricks car was a V6, I think a Buick bodied Howe or Dillion maybe, they got a weight break, and were fast, this was during the time that the NASCAR Busch series was running V6's so there was lots of R&D and major builders...

Sorry for the confusion! Yes I remember now, RICK Crawford, I'm thinking maybe he was from Arkansas?

I remember seeing him at Texas World Speedway one year.

Thanks for straightening me out!

THANKS 83X! That brings back a lot of memories!

That's the Pete Hamilton Chassis that was featured in Stock Car Magazine.

That's the last car John ever drove before the cancer took him.

Again, THANKS SO MUCH for sharing the picture!

Did you know John Foster or Danny Bennett?
