Keeping the "50 Years Ago" theme going, here's a few photos of the CARC cars now from 1964. It was always fun to see new cars, new paint schemes and driver changes for the new season.

Bart Manley first listed driver for #70, but Sam Sauer was also in that car, in an effort to back up his championship from the previous season, after totaling the #42. Twin #87s, for Billy Vaughn to choose from, and on at least one occasion, Mr. Vaughn drove his own Model A Vicky #87, a car that he also raced in Cheyenne. The primered version of #47 was listed as James Belknap, and the #67 Chevy, Danny Culp. Very cool tow vehicle, that '37-38 Chevy coupe. Interesting tow vehicles could be a topic for a thread!

A few more from 1964, a season that began a little slow, but by season's end, there were just over a hundred different cars that passed through the gate.

My favorite version of the green #42 Sam Sauer, unfortunately totaled during hot laps early in the season. #18 Danny Forehand, #9 Ed Mailo, #20 Ed Ruff, and #48 Pat Petrie, all good looking cars.

Thanks Parrot, Sure brings back some history. I think this is about the time I was not getting out there as much because I do not remember the twin 87's but clearly remember the 19 & 16's. Most of the names sure ring a bell!!

Just have to love those ol coupes and sedans, I remember we had so many cars at lakeside on one occasion, the pits were full, and cars were parked all the way around the outside of the pit enclosure, hooligan that night all but filled the whole track, it was a process of elimination, and it seemed to take forever, organized demolish ion derby.

looking for youth pics of my father.. 'sonny' Leonard Urquhart CARC member at one time, always active in the early days of Denver racing at Lakeside and Englewood. lived next door to Chuck Kason for years, and helped race out of one of the southwest Denver gas station/shops. Thank you for reading hope, I can find a needle in the hay stack.
